Will a Black Hole Soon Emerge from SN 1997 D ?

چکیده
Observations combined with theoretical modeling of the light curve of the recently discovered supernova 1997D in NGC 1536 suggest that it might host a black hole formed in the aftermath of the explosion. We consider some observable consequences of a black hole in SN 1997D and estimate the late–time accretion luminosity of the material which falls back onto the hole. We find that this luminosity, decaying with a characteristic power–law dependence on time, may emerge above the emission of the envelope in just a few years. Its detection would thus provide unmistakable evidence for the presence of a black hole. SNUTP 99-015 Localization instability in the rotating D-branes
In the microcanonical ensemble for string theory on AdSm × Sn, there is a phase transition between a black hole solution extended over the Sn and a solution localized on the Sn if the AdSm has the topology R2 × Sm−2. The phase transition will not appear if the AdSm has the topology R2 × Tm−2, that is, when the AdSm × Sn geometry is regarded as arising from the nearhorizon limit of a black m− 2 ...

متن کاملLimits on Black Hole Formation from Cosmic String Loops
In theories with cosmic strings, a small fraction of string loops may collapse to form black holes. In this Letter, various constraints on such models involving black holes are considered. Hawking radiation from black holes, gamma and cosmic ray flux limits and constraints from the possible formation of stable black hole remnants are reanalyzed. The constraints which emerge from these considera...
متن کاملConstant Curvature Black Holes
Constant curvature black holes are constructed by identifying points in anti-de Sitter space. In n dimensions, the resulting topology is <×S1, as opposed to the usual < ×Sn−2 Schwarzschild black hole, and the corresponding causal structure is displayed by a (n − 1)−dimensional picture, as opposed to the usual 2-dimensional Kruskal diagram. The five dimensional case, which can be embedded in a C...
متن کاملFlares from the Tidal Disruption of Stars by Massive Black Holes
Tidal disruption flares are differentiated into two classes – those which are sub-Eddington and those which radiate near the Eddington limit. Flares from black holes above ∼ 2× 10M⊙ will generally not radiate above the Eddington limit. For a Schwarzschild black hole, the maximum bolometric luminosity of a tidal disruption is ∼ LEdd(5 × 10 M⊙), substantially below the Eddington luminosities of t...
